Should You Sue The Makers Of Roundup?

If you used the popular herbicide Roundup and have been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, you may want to sue its manufacturer to recover any losses.

Outline:

  • What’s happening? – People are filing lawsuits claiming they were not properly warned that Roundup could cause cancer.
  • Who does this affect? – Anyone who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma after using Roundup.
  • What can you do? – If you were diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and believe it was due to using Roundup, you could hire a lawyer to file a claim and get compensated for your lost wages, medical bills, and other damages resulting from your diagnosis.
  • What does it cost? – You can talk to most lawyers about your case for free. If you decide to proceed, some lawyers will only charge if they win your case. Payment will come as a percentage of your settlement, allowing you to avoid any upfront or out-of-pocket expenses that you may not be able to afford.

Roundup Lawsuits

Roundup manufacturer Monsanto was accused of not warning people about the cancer-causing risk associated with its widely-used herbicide. As a result, attorneys have been filing lawsuits on behalf of clients who used Roundup and ended up with a non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma diagnosis.

Chemical giant Bayer purchased Monsanto for over $60 billion in 2018. In doing so, Bayer absorbed the issues related to the Roundup lawsuits and pledged to pay $10.9 billion to cover nearly 100,000 claims from users negatively impacted by the product. The $10.9 billion should cover 75 percent of current Roundup litigation. Bayer pledged an additional $2 billion to cover future claims in February 2021. A judge rejected that proposal, stating that a new settlement must be initiated to protect the interests of Roundup users.

Although each Roundup case is different, some have led to astronomical awards. A 2018 case in San Francisco led to a $289 million verdict for a school groundskeeper who developed non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma from exposure to the herbicide.

Accusations Of Wrongdoing Against Monsanto

Roundup lawsuits have accused Monsanto of the following:

  • Suppressing and downplaying information regarding Roundup’s risks.
  • Aggressively marketing Roundup as safe for the environment and humans.
  • Attacking legitimate studies that linked Roundup to cancer.
  • Falsifying data.
  • Refusing to revamp Roundup to make it safer for humans.
  • Failing to warn the public about Roundup’s cancer-causing potential.
  • Not monitoring Roundup once it hit the market.

Cancers Linked To Roundup

Roundup’s main ingredient, glyphosate, has been linked to the following forms of cancer:

  • B-cell lymphoma
  • Burkitt lymphoma
  • Chronic lymphocytic leukemia
  • Follicular lymphoma
  • Hairy cell leukemia
  • Lymphocytic lymphoma
  • Mantle cell lymphoma
  • Multiple myeloma
  • Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
  • Peripheral T-cell lymphoma
  • Skin lymphoma

The World Health Organization described glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic,” meaning it has the potential to cause cancer.

Who Is At Most Risk For Developing Cancer From Roundup?

Many believe that the following employees have experienced the highest levels of Roundup exposure. As such, they are at the highest risk for developing cancer from the herbicide:

  • Agricultural workers
  • Gardeners
  • Groundskeepers
  • Independent farmers
  • Industrial farm workers
  • Landscapers
  • Professional turf managers

Reasons To File A Roundup Lawsuit

Although Bayer vowed to resolve many Roundup cases by paying out $10.9 billion, this does not constitute a class action lawsuit. In other words, if you want to receive compensation for damage caused by using Roundup, you will have to hire an attorney to file your own lawsuit. Filing suit against Roundup’s manufacturer could help you replace lost wages due to your diagnosis. It could also help you pay past and future medical bills, plus cover funeral expenses if death should occur. Fail to file your own suit, and you will not be compensated for those damages.

How To File A Roundup Lawsuit

If you or a loved one became sick after using or being exposed to Roundup, Monsanto may be legally liable for medical bills, mental anguish, physical pain, and other damages. To receive compensation and hold Monsanto accountable for their actions, you must file your own lawsuit.

You can hire an attorney to help you throughout the process. Most will offer a free consultation so you can explain your experience and discover your options. If you hire an attorney, you may avoid out-of-pocket expenses if they work on a contingency fee basis, where they only charge if they win your case. You can then pay via your settlement.
